champagne and gin cocktail with passion fruit

I’m well aware of the fact that this is a post about a summery cocktail in October. Trust me, I want nothing more than to be sipping a warm, spiced something right now but alas, Los Angeles weather just isn’t having it.

Us Angelenos are coming off of a weekend with temps in the high 80s and this cocktail is how I’ve been making it through! Fall, please come soon.

The warmer weather has me thinking a lot about gratefulness, however. I think it’s easy to always live looking ahead: wanting to rush to the next event, next big life thing, next season, etc. It’s been a couple of months since I started saying how ready I am for fall, but recently I’ve begun shifting my focus on what is presently happening instead.

Appreciating that while yes, when “fall” does arrive I’ll savor it, but until then I’m grateful that I can still make use of my favorite summer clothing, still eat and drink lightly and with all the usual summer sweetness, and that LA has generally been sunny and gorgeous.

It’s a good but sometimes tough lesson to learn, that being present and acknowledging and applying a grateful heart to the current situation will allow me to enjoy everything that much more.

So with that in mind, here’s a bright and delicious cocktail to whip up, whatever your now may look like. Oh, and if passion fruit is nowhere to be found- you can substitute more wintry flavors like orange, pomegranate seeds, and rosemary.

Champagne and Gin Cocktail with Passion Fruit
makes 1

1.5 oz gin
.5 oz simple syrup
Juice of 1 lime
Scoop of  1/2 a passion fruit
1 gherkin (which is a tiny and cute variety of the cucumber family), or 1 cucumber slice
Small handful of mint leaves
1-2 slices lime

In a cocktail shaker, add your gin, simple syrup, lime juice, and passion fruit with a scoop of ice. Shake vigorously. Fill a champagne glass with mint, a lime slice, and some extra passion fruit. Pour in your shaken mixture. Top with champagne and garnish with a gherkin or a cucumber slice!
