The Spiced Persimmon Whiskey Old Fashioned

If you’ve met me before, you probably know that I love Whiskey. Old Fashioneds happen to be my favorite drink, so when my dear friend Sarah gifted me with a pile of Persimmons from the farmers market, I had to create a cocktail with them. I had a bottle of Makers Mark, and went to work on crafting a nice spiced winter drink.

My friend Alyse, who happens to be a phenomenal food photographer, came over to photograph (and drink) with me.

The Spiced Persimmon Whiskey Old Fashioned:

2-3 thin slices of a ripe persimmon
1 orange slice
2 teaspoons simple syrup or maple syrup
2 oz Makers Mark (or whiskey of your choosing!)
4-6 dashes of bitters
sprinkle of cinnamon

Combine persimmon slices, orange, syrup and bitters in a glass. Muddle a few times to break up the persimmon and combine the flavors.

Add ice and whiskey and stir well. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon to garnish the top.

Note: If your persimmons are super ripe, you’ll need less syrup. You can also add a cinnamon stick for extra garnish.
