viviane pool parties and my favorite french toast

You guys. I could not be more excited about the onset of summer. It means warmer and longer days, lounging by the pool, BBQ backyard nights with friends, and endless sunsets with purple skies. I love summer. One of my newly found and favorite spots in LA is gearing up for summer well. Viviane, located inside of the Avalon Hotel in Beverly Hills, and it’s the ideal spot for this summer’s Sundays. With an entire day dedicated to poolside brunching, champagne cocktails, and literally the best french toast I’ve ever eaten, Viviane is the perfect spot to spend your Sunday in LA.

I love pool parties and lazy days with friends, and as we move through May, I can’t help but carry a ton of anticipation of this coming season. And to make matters better, summer food just happens to be fantastic; the berries and produce that come with warmer months are some of the most colorful and delicious things. Viviane has taken those summer berries, and piled them on top of the most delectable stuffed french toast I’ve tasted. Two slabs of brioche, stuffed with a dark chocolate ganache, topped with blueberry compote and a light and airy whipped cream. It’s pure beauty and ridiculously delicious.

The poolside brunch menu was delicious, including the indulgent king crab benedict, loaded with crab, poached eggs, and drool worthy hollandaise. And the cocktails- so simple, so refreshing, and somehow they kept us there for four hours. Which meant we of course had to order brunch round 2.

Every dish at Viviane is given ample attention to detail. Chef Michael Hung takes classic American and European cuisine, and adds a flair of California freshness to each dish. The mid-century modern setting is meticulously designed, restful, and feels like a respite in the midst of a crazy busy city. If you’re craving a Sunday getaway in LA, this is the place to be and to indulge in.
